I Remembered You…

I had a memorable English and homeroom teacher named Zhao Lisheng. She was very helpful to me, and she trusted me a lot. She was always serious to me, and she troubled me. However, we had many small meetings where we talked about how I could study harder. She took some small classes to me, and told me where I could improve. She let me be the English class representative and the captain of our class. She always trusted me, and gave me a lot of energy. When I felt confused, she gave me some good suggestions, and told me which is better for my future. When I felt down, she cheered me up, and gave me confidence. Even though she was always strict with me, she told my parents many good things about me. I remember we had a big talk after I graduated. She was really nice to me, and she said that I was her daughter in her heart, and she was proud of me. I was surprised, and I cried at home. I can’t forget her smile, warm like the sun. To this day we are good friends. I call her once a month, and she often sends me e-mail. Ms. Zhao is a very good teacher to me, and I will never forget her.

When You Gone...

In the heated summer of last year, my grandfather passed away. I would take small walks with him, play card games, and even computer games too every week. Two years ago, he was diagnosed with lung cancer, but his family did not tell him about it. Without knowing about his disease, my grandfather fought against it for a year. The doctor often mentioned about how it’s a miracle. Even if my grandpa did not know about the disease, he felt his body become weaker day by day. One night, I couldn’t fall asleep. I lied in bed with my eyes open, my mind racing with unknown thoughts. Suddenly, I heard the hurried steps of my parents. I thought my mom wants to go visit my grandpa at the hospital. It was three in the morning when I took a look at the clock, which made me suspect whether something bad happened. I quickly texted my father to ask about my grandfather, but he never replied. Around fifteen minutes later, my mom called and told me to not to question what she is to say next. I was told to wear black and get to the hospital. My hands weakened all the sudden, crying as I got on the way. The car I rode didn’t fully stop, but I was already rushing out the door. Inside the hospital, there were loud noises of people crying, disturbing the silent night. My cousin told me, “Don’t cry, or else Grandpa will be worried.” I suddenly realized that the day I feared has finally come. Walking near my grandpa’s bed, I finally let out my tears. I feared walking near him, looking at him. Then, my aunt told me that my grandpa’s mouth won’t close no matter what, as if he still has something to say. I walked over with my cousin and said, “Don’t worry Grandpa. We will study very hard and become someone useful. Don’t worry about us; we will take care of our family. Don’t worry.” When my aunt attempted to shut his mouth again, it closed automatically. From then on, I promised that I would do what I had said to my grandfather. I won’t be a trouble to anyone; I won’t make others worry. To me, the death of my grandfather is the greatest change in my seventeen years.

My Dream Job

Everyone wants a better life, so they work hard to improve the quality of life. As a result of the fierce competition, people feel more stress and have some mental problems with themselves. For instance, a majority of people do something they aren’t interested in and repel the job. If you hate your job, you can not put your heart and soul into the work, so you will lose money. I have a dream job--psychologist. I choose this job because it will make me happy and give me a better life.
One of the reasons that I want to be a psychologist is this job would make me happy. When I was young, being a psychologist was my dream job. Cherry, whose parents divorced when she studied in the primary school, is my best friend. She could not understand why her parents were going to divorce and cried every day. She had a hard time, but I could not do anything to help her. I just sat with her and thought that if I were a psychologist, I would know how to console her, and even I could talk to her parents. Maybe they would have a better way to solve the problems instead of divorce, as an incomplete family is not good for a child. The thought to be a psychologist entered my mind at that time, and I wanted to help the people around me. When my friend Surcel broke up with his girlfriend, his heart broke deeply. I was concerned about him, so I chatted with him the whole night. At the end, he came round and thanked me for soothing him. I felt very happy when I heard that.
Another reason is this job will make my life better. Psychologists have a good salary. It is about $30,000~$100,000. In addition, people nowadays undergo a great deal of pressure that comes from various directions, including work, school, and so forth. Pressure hurts our health and has been one of the biggest enemies. Consequently, there will be a bright prospect for psychologists. For example, many workers are obsessed with low self esteem, and many families have domestic violence and child abuse. They commit suicide or hurt other people. They all need psychotherapy which will ease the fearful, let them know themselves, and make them healthy both physically and mentally. Psychotherapy can reduce the crime rates and makes vigorous efforts to safeguard social stability, and the social stability is the guarantee of my better life.
It is hard to find an ailment that cannot be traced in some way to pressure. Therefore, I want achieve my dream to be a psychologist to help people cope with pressure. When I help them solve problems, I feel pleased; in addition, the good salary will bring about a good life. I hope to help everybody could enjoy his/her life.

The Cell Phone

It’s a cell-phone. Two simple words, but it has changed the type of telecommunication in human’s life. The cell-phone working model depends on the signal towers, just like the relation between bees and honeycomb. The cellular network usually set around the signal tower, and reception cover the area where users accept. In addition, the cell-phone makes distance much less troublesome and bringing people closer, but also bringing some bad affects on our health and public noise. Can you image living without the cell-phone? That would be horrible. Therefore, cell-phone has played an important role in the human’s life and telecommunication’s history.

If we understand the history of cell-phone, and then we can know how important cell-phone is. According to an LA Times article,〝the first cell-phone was used in Sweden by the Swedish police in 1946. 〞The report also said that early cell phone communication technology could be traced back to individuals with special radios that could patch into a phone line via live operator to make a phone call. That was very inconvenient and only a few people could use it, but technology often develops fast. The first commercially automated cellular network (the 1G generation) was launched in Japan by NTT. The NTT network was expanded to cover the whole population of Japan within five years. After that the second generation (2G) and the third generation (3G) cell-phone has developed very quickly during the past fifteen years. Finally, cell-phone become a common tool, everyone need and use it.

Though cell-phone solved the problem of distance and made people closer, but also bringing some bad affects like our health and public noise. Some critics say that a strong cell-phone signal could cause brain cancer. For example, people said we can’t put cell-phone in our pockets for a long time because it would make people sterility in the future. In addition, the cell-phone often makes noise in the public place such as in the classroom, hospital and museum which causes distraction and reduces productivity.

In the internet age, most people communicate through the cell-phone. It's hard to believe that fifteen years ago cell phones were a rarity. Now, the cell-phone is a tool to make people closer, solve the problem of distance and most likely very important in human evolution as well. Through sustainable development maybe cell-phone will be hidden in the human’s body and never leave.

Headaches

The headache is a pain of the head that is a kind of disease. It involves pain in the head and the neck, even ears. In the 21th century, a lot of people have this disease of the health because we always live under the pressure of fast tempo of modern life every day. Relatively, headaches often result in people who live in stressful life. According to Motrin, “Migraine afflicts 28 million Americans, with females suffering more frequently (17%) than males (6%)” (Motrin , 2005). There are many causes of headaches, such as stress, emotion, life style. In addition, we talk about how the headache work in the head and three types of headaches, include tension headaches, migraine headaches, and cluster headaches.
The causes of headaches differ from person to person. However, everybody has some same reasons, such as stress, emotion, busy life, smoke. Nowadays, due to the increasing of stress and tension in the daily life, the headache has become one of the most common diseases. A headache could be the result of another major disease, like brain cancer, but the rate of headache is few. This is why it becomes difficult to find a solution to this problem. For example, when I was a high school student I had headache too. High school is an important process of study in Taiwan. In that time because competition among youths is intense I had a lot of stress. However, when finish high school program I never have headache anymore.

It is a complicated process that how the headache works in the head. A headache is a form of vascular. It is caused by vasodilatation that causes the release of chemicals from nerve and around the large arteries of the brain. The chemicals cause inflammation, pain, and uncomfortable feeling. The migraine attacks nervous system in the body; therefore, we begin to feel nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. The headaches usually are described as a intense pain that can let us feel want to knock walls. Sometimes the pain is around in the forehead, the eye, or at the back of the head, even on one side of the head. This feeling as if your head like a stress ball, otherwise, it make us difficult to focus something.
There are three types of headaches. The first is tension headache that is a common type. The rate of women is more chance from tension headaches than men. This headache may last from 30 minutes to several days. In some people, tension headaches are caused by inadequate rest, emotional or mental stress, anxious, hungry. The second one is migraine headache. It is usually an intense pain on one or both sides of the head. Besides pain, it is also can cause nausea and vomit and afraid to light and sound. Some people even see flashing lights or have a temporary loss of vision. The pain can last a few hours or up to one or two days and some people get migraines once or twice a week. The third one is cluster headache that is less common type than migraine headache or tension headache. This pain comes without any symptoms and always begins in your eye. The headaches commonly come on just after you go to sleep.
Appropriate treatment for headaches is important. We need to treat depend on the types of headaches, individual response, and health conditions. In my opinion, lifestyle changes may be enough to resolve those headaches. For example, we need enough rest, relax, keep good emotion. In addition, using medications are available treat and prevent headaches.

Formosan Sika Deer

When I was a high school student, my history teacher taught us about Taiwan’s economy in 1624 which was based on deer skin. At that time, hunter caught about 150,000 deer a year for deerskin. This is one reason why Formosan Sika deer are endangered in Taiwan. According to Wikipedia, only few deer species when they grow up, they still keep spots on the back, Sika deer is one of that species. Sika deer have sensitive and alert bodies. In the summer season, they have a red chestnut fur, and in the winter, their skin is dark brown. Sika deer is same with other species of deer. The male deer is bigger than the female deer, and only male deer have a horn on the top of his head. Formerly, Sika deer had a wide distribution in East Asia. However, because people developed quickly and damage environment, their range is heavily reduced today and only few areas contain wild populations of Sika deer. For example, Japan has the largest native Sika deer population in the world, and they are still increasing. Most Chinese believed that deer antler velvet is useful, so they raise deer artificially. Indeed, WHO(World Health Organization) has already improved deer antler velvet benefit for humans. It can help us it can prevent osteoporosis, helping children grow up. In addition, powder which made by deer antler velvet identified with nourishment from Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Although raising the wild Sika deer is difficult, people are still trying it in Taiwan. Kenting National Park, a wonderful natural place, planned to raise deer in 1986. Now you can see the wild Sika deer run in the grassland. Although the group of wild deer only have 108 to 156 Sika deer, people are still working on this plan and won’t give up. I hope that raising raise Sika deer will be achieved in the future, and people can see the wild Sika deer in nature again.

Taiwanese Phalaenopsis Orchids

According to the encyclopedia Britannica” The word orchid is derived from the Greek word (orchis) for testicle because of the shape of the root tubers in some species of the genus Orchis. These perennial plants are generally terrestrial or epiphytic herbs (i.e., growing on other plants rather than rooted in soil).” Taiwanese orchids only grow up in the subtropical zone, so it is impossible for them to live in dry zones. Things I know about orchid that they grow one season once a year. Also, they have different variety colors ranging in Taiwan such as pink, yellow, white, purple, and light green in solid colors, stripes, and spots. However, the Phalaenopsis orchid is the most famous and popular one. The reason why most people like it is because the pink color, and its florescence can last three to four months. In other words, the Phalaenopsis orchids have “superb longevity”, so many Japanese people like to order Taiwanese Phalaenopsis orchids to put in their homes to be rewarding and fun. On the other hand, other kinds of orchids’ florescence can only last for a few weeks. To buy the orchids from the garden centers, the prices of them depend on their species. A good quality of orchid has eight perfect petals, and its shape is close to a circle. In addition, orchids need 62 to 65 Degree Fahrenheit, adequate oxygen and fertilizer, 50% to 70% humidity to grow, and it has to have old dead roots carefully trimmed away. Above all, the Phalaenopsis orchids have those values to attract people who are extremely appreciative.
